Here’s 3 Simple Questions to Control Your Anger
Have you ever done something out of anger and regretted it?
Paradoxically, people let their anger take the wheel and make decisions for them.
But then they relentlessly find ways to fix what they did.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked with countless clients who struggled to rebuild relationships,
after letting anger drive them to:
- Say words that hurt their lovers
- Make emotional decisions in just a second
- Take revenge on their friends or colleagues
- Or worse, sabotage themselves.
The truth is: Anger is a GOOD friend.
It can even be a powerful ally if you know how to use it.
Why?
1 – It helps you protect yourself when you are threatened.
2 – It is a signal, and it gives you insights
But instead, most people deal with anger by suppressing it,
ignoring it
or pushing it away.
Taking 10 deep breaths helps, I agree.
But only temporarily.
Your anger is still there, waiting for you to come back.
It won’t go anywhere until you face it, talk to it.
And ask it 3 questions:
- What happened that made me feel angry? ⇒ Identify your trigger and the root cause of your anger.
- What do you believe this anger is trying to tell you? ⇒ Give you more perspective about your anger. Your anger is your signal. It tells you what you value and what is important to you.
- What can you do right now to express your anger in a healthy way? ⇒ shift your focus to the solution instead of getting stuck in the cause.
When you take time to reflect, you gain control.
Answering these 3 questions will give you valuable insights to transform your anger
and to understand more about yourself.
It is how you can ally with your anger.
The beast then becomes the beauty.
